Chapter One: First Tastes

Tomorrow's Chapter

Finishing a whole pouch for the first time - that is a big appetite moment.

Today was a lovely, simple day. The strawberry and watermelon pouch was nearly polished off entirely - the first time that has happened - and mashed potato came through as reliably as ever at dinner. The broccoli was mostly played with, which is completely fine. Broccoli has been happily eaten in floret and baton form before, so the mash format just wasn't the draw today.

For tomorrow, the yoghurt-plus-fruit breakfast is the natural go-to after a lighter breakfast today. The mashed avocado and fruit pouch format has been brilliant this week too - worth keeping in rotation alongside the straight pouch. Try the blueberry, banana and vanilla pouch mixed into Greek yoghurt with cucumber strips as dippers for a dependable, nourishing start.

Peanut butter has not appeared since 4 April - time to bring it back into the weekly rotation. A small teaspoon mixed into yoghurt is all it takes. No drama, just consistent exposure.

For dinner, chicken has not appeared in the diary for a few weeks now. It has been loved across six outings in multiple formats - strips, shredded, pieces. Goldie deserves a chicken dinner! Served alongside steamed carrot or parsnip batons it would make a brilliant protein-and-veg plate that plays entirely to her finger food strengths.

When the family feels ready, tree nuts would be a natural next allergen step - a small amount of smooth almond or cashew butter mixed into Greek yoghurt, with cucumber strips as dippers. The format is completely tried and trusted.

Wednesday 9 April - Dinner

Mashed potato with broccoli

A reliable dinner anchored by mashed potato, which remains one of Goldie's most dependable foods. The broccoli came along for the ride but was mostly played with rather than eaten today - that is completely fine. Broccoli has been happily eaten in floret and baton form before, so today was just a playing day for it. Finished the day with some milk.

Wednesday 9 April - Breakfast

A whole pouch finished for the first time!

The Ella's Kitchen strawberry and watermelon pouch was basically finished in its entirety - the first time Goldie has done that, and Leanne was really excited about it. Strawberry puffs followed as a familiar finger food to chew on afterwards. A happy, easy breakfast.

Wednesday 8 April - Breakfast

Cheese omelette strips - five egg sessions and counting!

One egg made into an omelette with mozzarella cheese mixed through, cut into three strips. Goldie ate quite a lot of it - a real success. Leanne confirmed that mozzarella is "definitely a big hit". Five consecutive positive egg sessions now since the cautious reintroduction began, and the cheese omelette is a lovely new format that combines two of Goldie's current favourites in one dish.

Tuesday 7 April - Dinner

Mozzarella, toast, leftover avocado pouch mix and cucumber

A whole square piece of mozzarella - finished completely, and quite a decent amount for this stage. Three big strips of buttered toast from one piece of white bread were offered, but Goldie had about half a strip and spent the rest of the time playing - a more playful toast outing than the last. The leftover avocado and strawberry watermelon pouch from breakfast made a welcome return and got mostly polished off, adding roughly another quarter of an avocado to the day's total. Cucumber strips were there too, played with more than eaten. Washed down with water and milk to finish.

Tuesday 7 April - Breakfast

Mashed avocado with watermelon and strawberry pouch, cucumber strips and a cheese strip

Leanne mashed half an avocado and mixed in some of the Ella's Kitchen strawberry and watermelon pouch for a lovely fruit-and-veg breakfast bowl. Goldie had about half of it - just over a quarter of an avocado and more than half the pouch. Cucumber strips were offered on the side and played with more than eaten today. Then a strip of cheese to finish, which was polished off completely. Milk to follow. A very happy Tuesday morning!

Monday 6 April - Dinner

Avocado strips and steak - two days running!

Half an avocado cut into strips and some steak pieces. Goldie was chewing and sucking all the flavour out of the steak - not swallowing every piece, but clearly enjoying it and getting a decent amount in. She played around with the avocado and didn't quite finish it either, but Leanne was happy with the overall portion. Steak is definitely a hit two outings in a row.

Monday 6 April - Breakfast

Toast, mozzarella and a watermelon and strawberry pouch - food 40!

A varied and happy breakfast. About a strip and a half of buttered toast - the most in one sitting yet! A piece of mozzarella alongside, which went down well for the second time. Then a decent amount of an Ella's Kitchen strawberry and watermelon pouch to finish - and watermelon is a brand new food, making this Goldie's fortieth! More to come today no doubt.

* Dairy introduced 7 March via natural yoghurt. No reaction observed. Also offered as Baby Bell cheese (12 and 18 March), butter (15 March, 2 April, 4 April, 6 April and 7 April on toast, 5 April and 6 April in cooked steak), cheese in a veg blend (25 March), Greek yoghurt (26 March), mozzarella strip (5 April), piece (6 April), whole square piece (7 April dinner), cheese omelette (8 April), and a strip of cheese at 7 April breakfast - no dairy-related issues across any format.

** Eggs flagged after vomiting on 11 and 15 March. Health visitor consulted 25 March - advised reintroducing yolk only first. Five consecutive positive reintroductions now: yolk only (27 March), omelette strips (29 March), whole egg omelette strips (1 April), omelette strips (4 April), and cheese omelette (8 April). Very encouraging progress - egg is looking increasingly settled as a safe food. Continue monitoring closely.

*** Peanuts introduced 28 March via peanut butter mixed into Greek yoghurt. No reaction observed. Second offering 3 April - quieter appetite but still had enough for continued exposure. Third offering 4 April - quite a lot eaten, Leanne now genuinely confident about exposure levels. No reaction across all three outings. Keep offering regularly.

**** Wheat/gluten first appeared 6 March via sourdough (incidental, not a fair test). Properly introduced 2 April via toast strips with butter - no reaction observed. Second offering 4 April dinner - ate a good number of mouthfuls, no reaction. Third offering 6 April breakfast - about a strip and a half, no reaction. Fourth offering 7 April dinner - about half a strip, more playful than eating, no reaction. Family history on mum's side noted - continuing to monitor as a matter of course.
